Cherry filler Goes on cherry and will fade with time as per the original 50's pore filler.

The cherry pore filler was developed from an original sunburst Les Paul from 1959. It yields a deep rich cherry colour that is identical in the pore, as well as in the meat of the wood. has a real 3d effect that can only be achieved using the right material and technique. Comes complete with instructions to achieve the best results.

Light Back filler is matches to a traditional light back found on the goldtops of the 1950’s

Dark Back filler is matched to the more rare dark back goldtops of the 1950’d, and will need to be top coated with our brown aniline dye to complete the look.

Pore filler instructions

- Have your raw wood sanded up to 400 grit. Be sure there are no defects or they will show up tenfold after the finish is applied.

- It's best to mask your binding and maple etc. to keep the pore filler from staining it. Don’t forget to tape over the holes for the controls etc. so pore filler doesn’t find its way to the maple top via those holes.

- Give your mahogany a wash coat of thinned lacquer. Once dry, give it a quick scuff sand with 600 grit sandpaper to get the raised grain knocked down, then another wash coat and let dry overnight.

- Once dried overnight. go ahead and spread the pore filler over the wood (mix well before use). Use a paintbrush with the bristles cut short. Let the pore filler sit longer if you are going for a deep cherry colour, or let it sit a shorter time if you’re going for a more faded look. A few minutes is all you really need. Then scrape off the pore filler going across the grain with a rubber scraper, or even a credit card will work. be careful not to scratch the actual wood.

- Finally, wipe off the remainder of the pore filler with some crumpled up burlap, and you’re done. you can reuse the filler that you scrape off, and if it gets a bit dry, just add some mineral spirits.

- Let the pore filler dry overnight, scrape your binding and you’re ready to apply your ambered clear coats.

Notes: If your mahogany is a pale pink colour, as so much of the plantation stuff is these days, you’ll likely want to pre-stain your wood with some darker brown stain to get it looking like the old stuff first. If you’re using true old growth (from a source you can truly trust) then you likely won’t need to worry about this, but old growth should be fairly dark after the washouts are applied

Keep the pore filler (and the finished guitar) out of the sun, as it will fade quickly under UV light.
